I’ve been a huge fan and an active subscriber of Google Webmaster Help’s channel on YouTube. I’ve found the videos posted here (by Matt Cutts – and sometimes with guest appearances) to be brief, but meaningful snippets of applicable information. If Google rolls out a change to how it handles certain types of requests, they are sure to cover it in a video. They also accept questions from Webmasters, which makes it a very good way to ask a question and to receive an answer “straight from the horse’s mouth.”
Anyway, after 375 videos, they’ve decided to do longer videos, so far they remind me a lot of how SEOMoz’s Whiteboard Friday videos are (and not just because they’ve started to incorporate a Whiteboard.) They are more informative than the original, less basic Q&A – more Q&A with detailed explanation and examples. The information in the two new, longer videos, are “micro-lecture” in nature.
If you’ve never seen any of these videos in the past, I highly suggest viewing some of the backlogs of videos, especially from the past year, so you can get an understanding of just how useful they really are. You can follow Google Webmaster Tools on Twitter to receive updates when new videos are posted.
