It’s hard to believe some of the comments that try to sneak past as “not spam”. For those who don’t know, the reason people spam blogs is to obtain links back to their website. Most bloggers won’t experience a heavy amount of spammers, but if you end up on a “list” somewhere on the Internet, you may get bombarded by spam comments on a daily. One of my blogs gets over 100 spam comments a day, thank God for Akismet! Akismet is a free comment spam prevention plugin that comes pre-packaged with WordPress. Make sure you have an API key or it won’t function properly (or at all).
Type 1: “I am not a Spammer”
Right away, when seeing this comment, you’ll have a gut feeling that it’s spam, however the author does a feeble attempt at reclaiming your trust in their comment. I’ve replaced their link bombs with “http://URL” for obvious reasons.

So this user attempted in total, to get 4 direct links + one link with anchor text. Their commenting name was “Do Follow Blogs” and you can sure bet that they put in a link to a low quality website trying to rank for Do Follow Blogs.
Type 2: “I am being helpful”
“I think one of your advertisements caused my internet browser to resize, you might want to put that on your blacklist.”
This is my absolute favorite, as it tries to be a helpful spammy comment. However, I have no Advertisements, so it was seen as spam instantly in my eyes. If you do a Google search of this, with quotes, you’ll find over 100,000 URLs with the exact comment (169,000 at the time of writing this), pretty impressive and successful spammer I must say!
Type 3: “Overly appreciatory”
Thanks for the nice article. It was very useful for me. Keep sharing such ideas in the future as well. This was exactly what I was looking for, and I am glad to be here!
Dude, you should be a writer. Your article is really interesting. You should do it for a living
This type of spammer tries to win your affection and a spot in your blog by being complementary. We all love hearing great things about our writing, and we all love a good pat on the back, but don’t let them win! Toss these types of spammy comments out with the rest of them. You’ll thank yourself later as the original commenter may remove you from their list if their comment didn’t get approved. Approving spam comments only suggest to them that you are open for business.
Type 4: The “I probably didn’t read your post but I’m going to comment anyway”
You have brought up a very wonderful points , appreciate it for the post.
Please, can you PM me and tell me few more thinks about this, I am really fan of your blog…
These off topic blog posts are carelessly thrown around the Internet like spitballs in a cafeteria. Someone was hoping a few kind words or basic comment would be enough to fool you into letting them sneak past the gate. We’re smarter than that, afterall it isn’t 1999 anymore.
Type 5: “Blatant Spam”
You can truly find doctors loans information from websites which supply financial trading options for doctors. These are really nice tools to make use of to offer youa differentperspective regardingyour physicians mortgage shopping. This can greatly assist you towith your journey of obtaining a physician loan for your next home.
This type of spammer needs no introduction. Their comment is a pure Advertisement for their website and nothing more. There is no attempt to sneak it in through creative commenting.
I’m sure if you are a regular blogger, you’ve seen your good share of bad comments too. I’d love to hear some in the comments section below. If you are one of these spammers, lets hear the logic you use when developing your salty comments.
